10.00 - 16.00 RNAS Yeovilton and Fleet Air Arm Museum
Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton is a large multi-role air
station and is home to Royal Navy (RN) Lynx Helicopters and RN
Commando Helicopter Force. The station operates over 100
aircraft in four different categories and is manned by around 1675
service and 2000 civilian personnel including MoD employees and
permanent contractors. Training of aircrew and engineers of
resident aircraft types is also carried out at Yeovilton. It is also the
location for the RN Fighter Controller School, training surface
based aircraft controllers.
The station is also home to the RN Fleet Air Arm (FAA) Museum
which houses the largest collection of Naval aircraft anywhere in
Europe together with the first British-built Concorde as well as a
replica of the flight deck of the aircraft carrier HMS ARK ROYAL.
On the day prior to the main conference, delegates will have the
opportunity to take a tour of RNAS Yeovilton and the FAA Museum
and gain insights into the working life of a RN base and also the
proud history and heritage of the RN’s aviators. The precise
itinerary will be sent to delegates in early 2008: highlights of the
visit will include:
- Commanding Officer’s welcome brief
- Visit to Lynx MK 8 helicopter facilities
- Lunch in the Wardroom
- Tour of the Underwater Escape Training Unit (UETU)
